CAMDEN HISTORY

CAMDEN IMAGES

Camden Historical Society and Camden Library Service have thousands of photographs in their collections.

Camden Images Past and Present is Camden Library's website to access the collection.

The National Library of Australia's website Trove is a good spot for looking for images of the Camden area held by other institutions. All images on Camden Images are also there.

Camden Library has also formed the group Changing Places and Faces of Camden on Flickr where you can view images and add your own photos.

Pictorial HistoryThe Historical Society has produced a DVD "A Pictorial History of Camden and the Camden District" which provides another way to access this valuable historical collection. The DVD has 393 photographs and plays for 79 minutes.

The images are supported by concise commentary with each photograph and this is complemented by pleasant music supplied by Campbelltown Camden District Band.

Photos show the effects of flooding over the years, the changing look of Argyle Street, from horse and cart to coal trucks and annual street parades. The collection also contains photos of Camden's suburbs before development and the Pansy train that went from Campbelltown to Camden.

The many historical homes scattered through the district, like Harrington Park, Camelot, Studley Park and Camden Park also feature on the DVD.

Cost of "A Pictorial History of Camden and the Camden District" is $20 plus $5 p/p.
It can be purchased at the Museum or contact Camden Historical Society for mail delivery.
